What Are Minor Surgical Procedures?
Minor surgery procedures are low-risk interventions performed with local anesthesia and do not require overnight hospitalization. Common surgeries include treating skin conditions, injuries, infections, or pains that are localized to one specific area. Most of these procedures can be performed after an in-person consultation on the same day.
At City Medical Centre, we provide the following services:
- Treatment of skin lesions and sports related injuries
- Treatment for ingrown toenails
- Wound Care and Suturing
- Cryotherapy for warts, corn, and verrucas
- Ear syringing for wax impaction and hearing loss relief
- Taking care of each individual patient with safe, professional surgery, and economical care remains our primary goal.
- Covered by Private Health Insurance
Minor surgery services offered at City Medical Centre can be covered by VHI healthcare, Laya healthcare, Aviva health or other leading Irish health insurers.
Intra Articular Joint Injections (Sports Injuries and Chronic Pain Relief)
For individuals experiencing pain in the joints, inflammation, or soft tissue damage, we offer general health services, corticosteroid or hyaluronic acid injections to the harmful areas. Some of these include:
- Sports-related injuries (knee or shoulder strains)
- Osteoarthritis
- Frozen shoulder and tennis elbow
- Chronic tendinopathy
Joint injections are very effective in providing relief, lessening inflammation, and postponing the need for more invasive surgical procedures. Moreover, the treatment is quick and safe, and we also use sterile techniques in our treatment rooms.
Excision of Skin Lesions
We provide complete removal of:
- Benign skin lesions
- Moles and skin tags
- Sebaceous cysts and lipomas
- Suspicious or irregular growths after biopsy.
Our GPs make the determination on whether a lesion is better managed with shave excision, punch biopsy, or full excision, always balancing aesthetics and final healing. Specimens can be sent to certified laboratories for pathological evaluation.
Shrink and Remove Toenail
Ingrown toenails can lead to persistent pain, tenderness, swelling, and even infections. Here at City Medical Centre, we offer:
- Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA)
- Total Nail Avulsion (TNA)
- Corner Phenolisation to Prevent further Growth
This procedure can be done surgically with some local anesthetic to numb the area. Moreover, it is particularly useful for chronic and recurrent cases. In addition, most patients are able to walk on the same day, and consequently, the majority heal in one to two weeks. At City Medical Centre, we also offer comprehensive sexual health services to support patients with sensitive concerns in a discreet and professional environment.
Suturing (Stitches for Cuts and Lacerations)
Sustained a laceration or open wound? These cuts and lacerations are all very common, and therefore, our doctors can professionally suture the following:
- Wounds from falls or sports
- Injuries from the workplace, kitchens, or DIY projects
- Playground injuries or other types of accidental injuries
We clean and close the wounds, apply sterile dressings, administer relevant tetanus boosters if necessary, and schedule follow-up appointments for suture removal and wound checks. Moreover, these injuries should be treated as soon as possible to avoid scarring and infection.
Cryotherapy (Nitrogen Gas Treatment)
This method employs cryotherapy. Cryotherapy is a highly effective treatment that uses liquid nitrogen gas to remove unwanted skin lesions and bumps. By freezing the cells, the abnormal tissue naturally falls off.
Some of the conditions we treat are:
- Warts
- Verrucas (Warts on the soles of the feet)
- Corns and Callouses
- Actinic Keratoses or sun spots
- Skin Tags
Cryotherapy is effective for all of these conditions. Furthermore, cryotherapy is done in seconds and is painless. In addition, it does not require much in the way of aftercare. However, resistant lesions may need multiple sessions.
